How do you split a game pass or cloud gaming plan?
Game passes, online play plans and cloud gaming services renew every month, and families and friends often play the same library. Some plans include family sharing; others are tied to one console or one account.
Games are harder to share than films, because saves, achievements and online play often belong to an account. Before you split a gaming plan, work out how a second person actually gets to play.
What should a seat include?
Say exactly how a member plays: their own account added to the plan, or time on a shared console. “What’s included” is required on every room.
House rules can cover the details gamers argue about: whose save is whose, who plays when on a shared console, and whether online play is part of the seat.
How do players pay?
Directly to the host, with whatever they already use. They tap “I’ve paid”, and the host confirms before sharing access.
If the plan works by invitation, the host invites the member’s email once their payment is confirmed. If it uses a login, the login is encrypted and only shown in the app to confirmed members.
Each month the room shows who has paid, and the host can send a reminder through any messaging app.
What happens when someone stops playing?
They leave the room, or the host removes them. If a login was shared, change the password afterwards.
The seat opens up again in the room for the next player, through the invite link or a verified college or company community.
