Guide

How do you split a subscription with friends?

Most streaming, music and software plans cost the same whether one person uses them or five. Splitting one with friends means one person pays the plan, everyone else pays that person their share, and each friend gets a seat.

It sounds simple, and it is until month three, when nobody remembers who paid, the login is buried in an old message thread and one friend quietly stopped paying. This guide covers how to set it up so it keeps working.

Which plan should you split?

Pick a plan that one of you already pays for and that has more seats, profiles or members than you use. Family, duo and team plans are the usual candidates.

Read the plan’s own terms before you invite anyone. Some family plans expect everyone to live at one address, others are built for anyone you choose. Only share a plan whose terms cover the people you add.

Count the seats honestly. If a plan has five profiles, that is five people, not five people plus a cousin on the side. A room on NeverSub never splits a plan further than the number of seats the host sets.

Who should be the host?

The friend who already pays for the plan. The host keeps paying the provider, and everyone else pays the host their share.

A good host is someone who answers messages and does not mind checking a payment once a month. They will confirm who has paid and remind whoever has not.

If two of you pay for different plans, each of you can host one. Friends often end up hosting the plan they use most and taking a seat in the others.

How do you agree what each friend pays?

Divide the plan price by the number of seats, and include the host as one of the seats. Everyone pays the same share, the host included.

Odd amounts cause most of the arguments. When a price does not divide evenly, someone ends up rounding in their own favour. NeverSub splits the price into whole amounts that add back up to the price, so nobody has to.

Agree what a seat includes before anyone pays: one profile, one device, or a place on the plan. Write it down. On NeverSub that goes in “What’s included”, which every friend sees before taking a seat.

How do friends pay the host?

Directly, with whatever you already use to pay each other. Then the friend marks the share as paid so the host knows to check.

On NeverSub, a friend taps “I’ve paid” and can add a payment reference. The host checks it arrived and confirms, and only then does the login unlock for that friend.

NeverSub never holds the money and charges no fee. It keeps the record: who took a seat, who said they paid, and when the host confirmed.

How do you keep it fair every month?

Treat it as a monthly cycle with one place that shows who has paid. Reminders are easier when the record is not in anyone’s head.

Each month the room shows the host who has paid and who has not, and the host can send a reminder through any messaging app from the room.

When a friend wants out, they leave the room. If someone stops paying, the host can remove them. Change the plan’s password after someone leaves, so the seat is really free for the next person.
